The MVC Process
-
Potential clients can reach out via the website, email, phone, text, or social media.
Discuss project requirements including general scope, project type, budget, and overall timeline.
Discuss the architect’s proposal, fee structure, and preliminary estimates of the cost of construction.
Upon agreement, the design process begins.
-
The owner provides a “wish list” including a list of rooms, any special adjacencies, or requirements for their project.
For example, # of bedrooms and bathrooms, do you want a kitchen open to the family room, a butler’s pantry connecting the kitchen to the dining room…One of the best advantages to hiring an architect is getting a custom home that is unique to your wants and needs.
At this point, the owner can share any images that may help to explain their thoughts/goals/inspiration for the project.
-
As one of the most important aspects of any good design, MVC will study the site to understand solar orientation, view corridors, natural terrain, and existing adjacencies, to name a few.
MVC will also check jurisdictional zoning requirements and setbacks critical to the overall design of the project.
-
Using the Programming Document and the Site Analysis, we will use “bubble diagram” sketches to determine space requirements, reinforce adjacencies, and show an overall site plan for the proposed project.
-
MVC will develop 1/8-inch scale floor plans and exterior renderings for the Owner’s review and approval. Working at this smaller scale provides the opportunity to analyze multiple options.
MVC will provide a preliminary site plan, showing how the house will sit on the property, and include large-scale site components such as drives, additions, pools, accessory structures, etc.
-
Commences once preliminary drawings are officially approved.
MVC will develop 1/4-inch scale floor plans and exterior elevations that will provide the base set for the Construction Documents.
-
Using the Design Development Drawings, MVC will layer in additional information including dimensions, details, interior elevations, and specifications.
We will assist with the selection of appliances, plumbing fixtures, tile, hardware, etc.
Once approved, MVC will work with the Owner to select the general contractor through a bidding or negotiating process.
-
Once construction commences, MVC will participate in the overall construction process, meeting with the owner, general contractors, and consultants in intervals necessary for the stage of construction, ensuring construction documents are followed and the overall project goals are met.
